Mr. Joseph Henry “Joe” Blatz of Port Jervis, NY, died Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at St. Joseph's Place. He was 83.
He was born December 25, 1928 in Jamaica, NY the son of the late Peter and the late Ethel Seidensticker Blatz.
Joe proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War and earned the Purple Heart but declined to accept it because he felt other soldiers were more deserving.
He married Patricia Smith on February 20, 1954 in St. Ignatius R.C. Church, Hicksville, L.I., NY.
Joe worked as a Lino Type Operator for Double Day Printing in New York, NY.
He was a member of the Port Jervis and Deerpark Senior Clubs where he loved to play Pinnocle with his friends.
A family statement read: Joe was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who will be sadly missed.
Surviving are:
His loving wife of 58 years Patricia Smith Blatz at home.
1 Son: Mark Blatz and his wife Lisa of Westtown, NY
2 Daughters: Donna Blatz of Northport, NY
Linda Morrell of Aquebogue, NY
6 Grandchildren: Eric Blatz of Syracuse, NY; Tara Soudant of Albany, NY; Ryan Blatz of Harrisburg, PA; Kerry Blatz of Albany, NY; Erin and Emily Morrell of Aquebogue, NY.
Also several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Inc., 100 E. Main St., Port Jervis, NY 12771 on Saturday, June 9, 2012 from 10:00am – 12:00pm followed by a service at 12:00pm with Rev. Dennis O’Neill officiating.
Cremation will be at H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg, PA.
