Bill Sunday Hanshew, Jr., age 75, of Pinch, WV, entered into the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, after his courageous battle with cancer for the last two years.
Born January 11, 1935 in Martinsburg, WV, to Bill and Mildred Hanshew, he graduated from Martinsburg High School in 1952. He graduated from West Virginia University School of Engineering in 1958, beginning his career as a District Engineer with the WV Division of Highways until he retired in 1988. He then worked for the Federal Emergency Management Agency until 2007.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles B. Hanshew, of Martinsburg, WV.
He is survived by
his loving wife of 51 years, Sara Field Hanshew;
daughter, Marsha Erskine and husband, Butch, of Huntsville, AL
son, Doug Hanshew and wife, Terri, of Elkview, WV;
daughter, Christy Page and husband, John, of Johannesburg, South Africa;
and sister, Victoria Hughes and husband, Walter, of Martinsburg, WV.
He was “Pap” to 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
He was a faithful member of the Bible Center Church in Charleston for over 40 years.
In lieu of flowers and to honor his commitment to his faith, donations may be made to the Benevolent Fund of the Bible Center Church, Word of Life South Africa, or the Union Mission. Donation envelopes will be available at both visitations.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 18, 2010, from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Hafer Funeral Home in Elkview, WV and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. The service will be held at the Southridge Campus of Bible Center Church, located off of Corridor G at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 19th, 2010 with the Reverend David Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Elk Hills Memorial Park in Big Chimney, WV.
