Marie Cavender Jordan

Marie Cavender Jordan, 91 of Elkview, WV was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on Saturday, September 11th 2010 in CAMC General Hospital after a short illness. She was born August 22, 1919 at Indian Creek. She was the daughter of Charles “Luke” and Callie Buckner Cavender of Indian Creek. She had been lovingly cared for in the home of her daughter Jennifer Fisher and husband Motie Fisher of Pinch; formally of Ypsilanti, MI.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband George A. Jordan, sisters: Lettie Norman of Mill Creek, Irene Tankersly of Alvin, TX. Brothers: Earl Cavender of Elkview, John L. Cavender of Mill Creek and her son-in-law Jack Jarrett. Also preceded by one great-great granddaughter: Natalie Rose of Chelsea, MI.

Marie was employed at O. J. Morrison’s Department store in Charleston, WV. She was a wonderful cook and well known for her “special” fried chicken, but above, for her humor, kindness, and generosity to others.

Marie was a loving mother, grandmother, and great friend to all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughters: Shelva Jarrett of Elkview, Jennifer Fisher and husband Motie of Pinch; son: George Allen Jordan and wife Redena of Elkview. Her Sister Mary Akers and husband David of Ripley; brothers: Stanley “Babe” Cavender and wife Dee of Elkview and Homer Cavender of Long Ridge in Roane County.

Marie was blessed with seven grandchildren; Mark Jarrett, Greg Jarrett, Monica McKenzie, Amy Pierson, Mary Bordeau and twins Sarah and Jordan Fisher.
Eleven great-grandchildren; Trevor Jarrett, Jackie Jarrett, Kaylee Jarrett, Joe Knight and Nicholas McKinzie, Jessica Reed, Hollie Craft, Katie Ryan, Danny Pierson, Jacob Pierson, Adam Bordeau and two great-great grandchildren, Faith Haid and Carolynn Reed.

Service will be Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 2:00pm at Hafer Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Vince Button officiating. Burial will be in the Jarrett Cemetery in Elkview, WV.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 14, 2010 from 6-8 pm at Hafer Funeral Home Chapel.
