| Sr. Elizabeth of the Mother of God
Sr. Elizabeth of the Mother of God, OCD died April 8, 2004 at the Carmelite Monastery in Beacon. Sister was 94 at the time of her death.
Born Genevieve Elizabeth Chisholm, she was born in Salem, Massachusetts on March 18, 1910 and remained there until she came to live and work in New York City. Sister was professed in the Carmel in the Bronx on August 15, 1949; she moved to Beacon in 1982 when the community was relocated.
A professional dietician at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York before entering Carmel, Sister Elizabeth served the community in a number of ways- chiefly in the kitchen. Sister spent many hours baking and preparing meals; she also instructed the younger sisters in good nutrition and cooking methods. The community and many community friends benefited from her culinary skills and her artistic sense.
Sister Elizabeth is survived by many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Carmelite Monastery, 89 Hiddenbrooke Drive, Beacon on Monday, April 12 at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Ascension Cemetery, Monsey, NY.
Friends may call at the Monastery on Easter Sunday from 3 to 5 pm and from 7 to 8:30 pm. There will be a wake service at 7 pm.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Peter T. and William J. Halvey, Halvey Funeral Home, 24 Willow Street, Beacon.
