  VIEW/SEND CONDOLENCES

Peter John "Poppy" Colonna, Sr.

James and Assunta Colonna called their beloved son, Peter John Colonna , home on Mother's Day May 9, 2004 at the age of 80. With his family's love and support along side of him, he entered into rest at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus.

He was born on January 24, 1924 in Campbasso, Italy and came to the US in 1931. He has since been a resident of Beacon.

He married a kind and caring Mildred Nastasi of Cold Spring on June 4, 1944 at Our Lady of Loretto Church in Cold Spring. Mrs. Colonna survives at home.

Regardless of his lifelong battle with polio, Mr. Colonna proudly served his country in World War II with the United States Army. He was also a member of the American Legion and was employed by National Biscuit/Nabisco for 32 years prior to his retirement.

"Poppy" was a special man with a brilliant sense of humor who loved to walk and was an avid reader. There wasn't anything he loved more than to be surrounded by his family eating pasta dinners. The memories his family has shared with him will be cherished and in their hearts forever. It was an honor to be a part of his life. He will be extremely and painfully missed.

In addition to his wife, Peter is survived by a son, Peter Colonna, Jr. and his wife, Michele of Poughkeepsie; a daughter, Susan Pellegrino and her husband, John of Rochester; his grandchildren, April Stevens and her husband, Scott of Wappingers, Tonya Falcone and her husband, Robert of Poughkeepsie, Raymond Renzo and his wife, Theresa of Wappingers, Kimberly Shields and her husband, Jeff of Wappingers, Corinna Colonna and her fiancé, Ernie Carillo of Poughkeepsie, and John Pellegrino, Jr. of Wappingers; his great-grandchildren, Cody (Pop's best friend) and Dylan Stevens of Wappingers, Robert Falcone, Jr. of Poughkeepsie, Jeffrey Shields, Jr. and two more on the way; his sister, Norma Roddy and her husband, Rod of Wappingers; one brother, Vincent Colonna and his wife, Dorothy of Florida; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Alex Colonna.

Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at Halvey Funeral Home, 24 Willow Street, Beacon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Thursday, May 13 at St. Joachim's, Leonard Street, Beacon.

Interment will follow in St. Joachim's Cemetery, Washington Avenue, Beacon.

Inlieu of flowers, memorial donations on Peter's behalf may be made to Beacon Engine, East Main Street, Beacon, NY 12508.

Funeral arrangements will be under the direction of Peter T. and William J. Halvey, Halvey Funeral Home, 24 Willow Street, Beacon. To send an online condolence or for directions, please visit our website at www.halveyfh.com.
