John Robert Cramer
John Robert Cramer, a longtime Beacon resident, entered into rest Monday, September 16, 2002 at his home after a long and courageous three and a half year battle with lung cancer. His spirit and determination was an inspiration to all. He was 58.
Son of Margaret Heller Cramer and the late Robert "Bob" Cramer, he was born December 3, 1943 in Poughkeepsie.
He married the former Jaylene Phillips in 1968. Mrs. Cramer survives in Beacon.
Mr. Cramer was Corrections Officer at Fishkill Correctional Facility for 28 years before his retirement. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, the Beacon Boat Club, the New Hamburg Yacht Club, and the Wiccopee Rod and Gun Club. He was active in Beacon Little League volunteering as coach for several years. He enjoyed spending time with family, friends and especially his wife on the river in his boat.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jaylene Cramer at home in Beacon; his mother, Margaret Cramer of Beacon; his sons, Christopher Cramer of Saratoga Springs and Geoffrey Cramer of Clifton Park; his sister, Mary Wassi of Beacon, and his six grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 18, 2002 from 6-9 pm at Halvey Funeral Home, 24 Willow Street, Beacon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Thursday, September 19 at St. John the Evangelist Church, Willow Street, Beacon.
Interment will follow in St. Joachim's Cemetery, Washington Avenue, Beacon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations on Mr. Cramer's behalf may be made to Hospice of Dutchess County, 374 Violet Avenue, Poughkeepsie, New York 12601.
