Mabel M. Bogardus
Mabel M. Bogardus, a lifelong Beacon resident, entered into rest Tuesday, September 27, 2005, at home. She was 95.
Born in Beacon on June 17, 1910, she was the daughter of William and Viola Budney Hughes. She married Victor Powell, who preceded her in death on October 1, 1960. She then married Robert A. Bogardus, who also preceded her in death on July 26, 2001.
Mrs. Bogardus was a supervisor of officers at the former Matteawan State Hospital, retiring in 1972 after 41 years of service. She was a parishioner of St. Joachim-St. John the Evangelist Church, Beacon. She was a member of St. John’s Seniors, Court Liberatta, Catholic Daughters of America, and Southern Dutchess Country Club.
She is survived by two stepsons, Robert H. Bogardus and his wife, Gwen, Pleasant Hill, CA, and Royal L. Bogardus and his wife, Ellen, Beacon; one stepdaughter, MaryLou Bogardus, New York City; six step grandchildren, Jennifer Christie, Lucille Abbott, Lara Bogardus, Shannon Kraal, Royal Bogardus, and Helena Bogardus; four step great grandchildren; and several cousins.
Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 29, at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc. 24 Willow Street, Beacon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10 a.m. Friday, September 30, at St. John’s, 35 Willow Street, Beacon.
Interment will follow in St. Joachim’s Old Cemetery, Beacon.
Donations in Mrs. Bogardus’ memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
