Mary Ellen "Nellie" Davis
Mary E. Davis, affectionately known as “Nellie”, entered into rest on Wednesday, October 26, 2005. Nellie died at Vassar Brothers Medical Center at the age of 94.
Daughter of the late Neil and Mary McGrath Gallagher, Nellie was a lifelong resident of Beacon, born into a large family on September 12, 1911, as Mary Ellen Gallagher. She is predeceased by several brothers and sisters, Joseph, Neil, Charles, William, Edward, Daniel, Anne Baxter, Margaret Pfannes, Eileen Hunter, and Genevieve Mayen-Hearney. Nellie is survived by brothers, James of Chelsea, John of Red Hook, Thomas of Schenectady, Patrick of Peekskill, and sisters, Kathleen Krawiec of Florida, and Mary Duers of Fishkill.
Nellie was married to Frederick Antalek and after his death to Patrick Davis, and is survived by her son Frederick N. Antalek and her daughter Mary Ann Davis, both of Beacon. She also enjoyed the lives of 11 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Nellie worked many years at Matteawan State Hospital, but was best remembered for working at her brother Charlie’s store, Gallagher’s Mid-Town Market. She will be missed by family and friends.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to St. Joachim-St. John the Evangelist Church, 2 Oak Street, Beacon.
Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, October 28, 2005, at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 29, at St. John’s, 35 Willow Street, Beacon.
Interment will follow in St Joachim’s Cemetery, 303 Washington Avenue, Beacon.
