Rose Mary Dalbo
Rose Mary Dalbo of Beacon, NY died peacefully Sunday, July 9, 2006, surrounded by her daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren, in her brick home on Chiappardi Place that she and her husband built a half century earlier. She was 89.
The former Rosina Raffaele was born January 11, 1917 in the Groveville section of Beacon, the daughter of Palmarosa and Christopher Raffaele. Her father, Christopher, a stonemason, built the stone entryway to St. Joachim's Cemetery. Rose graduated from St. Joachim's Catholic School, Beacon, and was employed at Aviators Clothing Factory, Castle Point Veterans Hospital, and IBM, from where she retired.
She was in her early 20's when she met her future husband, Anthony, Dalbo, at Ralph's Pizzeria in Beacon, a local "institution". It was a Big Band-era romance interrupted by World War II. Anthony Dalbo was a weatherman, lifeguard, and Army fitness champion stationed at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked. The couple was married on January 14, 1945, while he was on leave.
They had four daughters and were married for 28 years when Anthony died prematurely of a heart attack in 1973. Rose was a fun-loving person who continued to enjoy world traveling, dancing, and playing cards with her many friends. She was also a golfer who won many trophies as well as a great cook, renowned for her lasagna with homemade noodles. She was and will remain an inspiration to her children and grandchildren for the valiant, independent way she lived her life.
Rose was a parishioner of St. Mary, Mother of the Church, in Fishkill and was a relentless prayer warrior on behalf of her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Cerone, Toni Ann Walkup, Rosemarie Cipriano, and Pamela Dalbo; her grandsons, Marc, Anthony, and Gabriel; and granddaughters, Carla and Leah; and a great grandson, Luca. In addition to her husband, Anthony, she was predeceased by her brothers Joseph and Nuzzio Raffaele; her sister, Teresa DeRico, and her twin sister, Palma Bellissimo.
The family will receive their friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2006, at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 103 Jackson Street, Fishkill.
Interment will follow in St. Joachim's Cemetery, 303 Washington Avenue, Beacon.
