Elsie J. Burke
Elsie J. Burke, a lifelong Beacon resident, died Sunday, July 23, 2006, at Ferncliff Nursing Home, Rhinebeck. She was 88.
Born in Beacon on January 26, 1918, she was the daughter of Frederick and Nettie Williams Jones. She married to David James Burke, Sr. on January 19, 1939 by Rev. James A. Cassidy at St. Joachim’s Church, Beacon. Mr. Burke preceded her in death on December 1, 1996.
Mrs. Burke is survived by two sons, David J. Burke, Jr., Beacon, and William F. Burke, Fishkill; two daughters, Mary B. Murphy, Poughkeepsie, and Elizabeth A. Gobbelet, Wappingers Falls; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She was a parishioner of St. Joachim-St. John the Evangelist Church, Beacon. She was a charter member of the St. Joachim’s Women’s Club, a member of Court Liberatta, Catholic Daughters of America, Stanley Odell Democratic Club, Beacon, St. John’s Senior Citizens, and Southern Dutchess Gadabouts of Beacon. For many years, she was active with the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) in Beacon.
There will be no visitation.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at St, Joachim’s, 61 Leonard Street, Beacon.
Interment will follow in St. Joachim’s Cemetery, 303 Washington Avenue, Beacon.
Donations in Mrs. Burke's memory may be made to St. Joachim-St. John the Evangelist Church, 2 Oak Street, Beacon, NY 12508.
