Sr. Constance Byrnes, OCD
Sr. Constance Byrnes OCD, of the Carmelite Monastery in Beacon, New York, passed away on July 24, 2006, at Ferncliff Nursing Home, Rhinebeck, NY. Sister was 85.
Born in Brooklyn, NY on April 3, 1921, Sister Constance of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Constancia Mary Byrnes) was the daughter of Walter and Mary Mulcahey Byrnes.
She entered the Carmelite Monastery in Bronx, NY, in 1941 and on October 30, 1949 made her profession of vows. In 1995, Sister transferred to the Carmelite Monastery in Saranac Lake, NY. In 1997, the Saranac Lake Carmelites united with the sisters of Beacon and Barre, VT to form a new community, the Carmel of the Incarnation, in Beacon.
Sister Constance is survived by her brother, David Byrnes, Lindenhurst, NY; nieces and nephews, Joseph Meehan, Connie Kelly, Susan Pagnotta, Linda Byrnes, and Kevin Byrnes, and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
Friends may call at the Carmelite Monastery, 89 Hiddenbrooke Drive, Beacon, on Wednesday, July 26, 2006 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. There will be a Wake Service at 7:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 27, at the Carmelite Monastery.
Interment will follow in Ascension Cemetery, Monsey, NY.
