| DorothyAnn Davis DorothyAnn Davis, 78, of Beacon and formerly of West Point, New York, died unexpectedly at her home, early Saturday morning, February 8, 2003. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Davis had served for more than ten years as director if music at Marist College following a number of years at a similar position at Ladycliff College in Highland Falls, New York.
Born in Quincy, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Frank and Emma Holmes Deininger. After graduation from North Quincy High School, she attended Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey, earning Bachelor and Master of Music degrees - the latter as an organ performance major. In later life she did further graduate work in Temple and Miami Universities.
In 1945, she married John A. Davis, Jr., who had resumed studies at Westminster, after services as a World War II pilot. They served as music directors at churches in New Jersey and Michigan, before coming to West Point in 1955, when her husband was appointed organist and choirmaster of the U.S. Military Academy.
As college director, Mrs. Davis led her choral groups on tours to Russia, Italy, Spain, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Australia, and many other locations. She served, for many years, as president of a college woman's glee club association, which sponsored annual festival competitions, in which her groups consistently received high ratings.
An avid gardener, she also delighted in the many trees that she planted on their property when she and her husband moved to Beacon in 1985.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, John, and their children; Ellen McKenna and her husband Owen of Norwell, Massachusetts, Ellen's sons, George Adam III and John C. Adam and his wife, Erin Loughran, all of New York City; John Alexander Davis of Seattle, Washington, and Peter William Davis of Prescott, Arizona. She also leaves behind a brother, Frank Deininger and his wife, Betty; a sister-in-law, Marjorie - the widow of her older brother Anson; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service and reception will be held at The Reformed Church, 70 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie on Thursday February 13, 2003 at 11 am.
