Andrew J. Baca, Jr.
Andrew J. Baca, Jr., 59, a Beacon resident, died on Sunday, September 3, 2006, at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh, surrounded by his family and friends. When a cure for his cancer wasn’t meant to be, he was carried home in the arms of the angels to rest eternally.
Born November 30, 1946 and raised in Beacon, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Baca, Sr., who predeceased him.
As a student at St. John’s, he also served as an altar boy in the church. While still in Beacon High School, he joined the US Navy and served in Vietnam.
Upon completion of his reserve time, he married his high school sweetheart, Joanne M. Plimley, on July 12, 1969 at St. John’s Church. She survives at home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Thomas J. Baca and Laura Lynne Baca, both of Beacon, Andrew J. Baca III and his wife, Melissa, and Dawn Marie Travis and her husband, Michael, all of Walkill; three sisters, Nanci Wilson, and her fiancé, Dennis Ceparano, Newburgh, Mary Ann Dritsas and Gerry Anzalone and her husband, John, all of Norfolk, VA; and one brother, Thomas Caplandies and his wife, Yvonne, Bloomingburg, three precious little grandchildren, Victoria Travis and Kathleen and Jacob Baca, and godchildren, Larry Plimley and Fawn Caplandies. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins and sisters-in law, brothers-in-law and many treasured friends.
He loved riding his motorcycle, camping, and watching football and NASCAR races.
He was employed by Metal Container Corp., Newburgh as a front end production tech. He had also worked for the former Nabisco as a pressman and Cable TV as an installer.
The family will receive their friends 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2006, at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, at the funeral home.
Interment with military honors will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery, 801 Route 9, Fishkill.
