Florence J. “Flo” Cwill
Florence J. “Flo” Cwill, a lifelong resident of Beacon, passed on peacefully on Tuesday, November 28, 2006, at St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie, with the love of her family and friends forever with her. She was 85.
Born in Chelsea on May 21, 1921, she was the daughter of Joseph and Anna Borodach Piga. She married Chester Cwill, who preceded her in death on November 8, 1984.
Flo enjoyed her work in sales for over thirty years – first at Lane’s Jewelers and then Flowers and Mistletoe, both in Beacon. She also enjoyed travel, cooking, crossword puzzles, and Scrabble games on Sunday afternoons. She was a parishioner of St. Joachim-St. John the Evangelist Church, Beacon.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Janice Cwill, Beacon; her sister, Helen Bartenstein, Clinton Corners; two brothers, Joseph Piga and his wife, Margot and Clarence Piga and his wife, Julia, all of Beacon; several nieces and nephews, and her cat, Ollie. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Edward.
The family will receive their friends on Friday, December 1, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 2, at St. John’s, 35 Willow Street, Beacon.
Interment will follow in St. Joachim’s Cemetery, 303 Washington Avenue, Beacon.
