James L. Callaway

James L. Callaway, a longtime Beacon resident, entered into rest Friday, March 21, 2003 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. He was 72.

Son of Selma Belford Callaway and the late Leroy F. Callaway, he was born November 17, 1930 in Berwick, Pennsylvania.

On December 12, 1959 he married the former Thelma Kilbride at First Presbyterian Church, Beacon. Mrs. Callaway survives at home.

Mr. Callaway proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1948 to 1953. He was employed at Texaco Research Center, Glenham retiring in 1993 after 40 years.

He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Beacon and Beacon Lodge # 283, F & AM.

James is survived by his mother Selma Callaway of Berwick, Pennsylvania; his wife, Thelma Callaway at home; his son, Steven J. Callaway and his wife, Theresa of Beacon; his daughter, Susan L. Barclift of Virginia Beach, Virginia; one brother, Nelson Fox of Beacon; one sister, Lois J. Callaway of Berwick, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, Jami, Lindsay, and Joshua Barclift, Corinne Yanis, Jason and Alex Callaway; his dog and faithful pet, Hanna; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on Sunday, March 23, 2003 at Halvey Funeral Home, 24 Willow Street, Beacon.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Monday, March 24, 2003 at Christ United Methodist Church, Corner of Phillips Street and Union Street, Beacon with Pastor Tony Beck officiating. Masonic services will follow the services at Christ United Methodist Church.

Interment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Route 9, Fishkill.

Memorial donations on James' behalf may be made to either American Diabetes Association or Christ United Methodist Church.
