Rudolph Anthony Sylvester


Rudolph Anthony Sylvester, a lifelong Beacon resident, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie, from injuries sustained in a fall. He was 83.

Rudy was born on November 24, 1924 in Beacon to Pietro and Josephine DiCamillo Sylvester. On October 15, 1955, he married the former Catherine Casso. Mrs. Sylvester preceded him in death on May 24, 1998.

He was a devoted father and a master carpenter until the time of his death and will be missed by all who had the honor of knowing him. He served in the US Army during World War II, receiving a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for his efforts. He was a parishioner of St. Joachim-St. John the Evangelist Church, Beacon.

He is survived by five loving children, Nancy Jones and her husband, Mark, Beacon; Jeanne Sylvester, Fishkill; Julie DiGiaimo and her husband, Nick, Fishkill; Michael Sylvester and his wife, Jane, Beacon; and Patty McCarthy and her husband, Dan, West Point. He is also survived by three siblings, Margaret Garnot, Wappingers Falls; Helen Percacciolo and her husband, Angelo, Cold Spring; and Francis Sylvester, San Diego, CA. He will be missed by his eight grandchildren, Nicholas, Christina, Gina, Sara, Matthew, Shane, Michael, and Jack. He is also survived by his World War II buddy, Pat Tardo, Toms River, NJ. His brothers, Henry and Concezeo, also predeceased him.

The family will receive their friends on Friday, May 16, at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, May 17, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 Willow Street, Beacon.

Entombment will follow in Cedar Hill Community Mausoleum, 5468 Route 9W, Newburgh.

Donations in Rudy’s memory may be made to Disabled American Veterans, Castle Point, NY 12511.
