Rev. Thomas Pietrantonio, O.F.M. Cap.

Rev. Thomas Pietrantonio, O.F.M. Cap. died Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at St. Lawrence Friary in Beacon. He was 81.

He was born in New York City on June 15, 1926 to Francis and Rose Vocile Pietrantonio. At baptism, he was given the name Armand. He entered the minor seminary of the Capuchin Friars in the Bronx, NY on September 15, 1937. He was invested with the Capuchin habit on July 20, 1941 at St. Lawrence Seminary in Beacon. On July 26, 1942, he professed Simple Vows and professed his Solemn Vows on October 4, 1947. He was ordained a priest on June 18, 1949 in Staunton, VA.

For most of Fr. Thomas’ priestly ministry, he was assigned to various parishes staffed by the Capuchin Fathers of his province, serving as an Associate Pastor as well as Pastor in various places. In 1974, Fr. Thomas was assigned to St. Francis Renewal Center where he remained for thirty-three years. Serving as vicar of the Friary, he also used his great technical and mechanical skills to keep both the Friary and its surrounding grounds in good condition. He also ministered in the surrounding area at various parishes whenever the need arose for a priest to celebrate Mass.

As his health began to deteriorate, Fr. Thomas spent his remaining time at St. Lawrence Infirmary, receiving care until his death.

Visitation will be Friday, May 30, 2008, from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at St. Lawrence Chapel, 180 Sargent Avenue, Beacon, and Saturday, May 31, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Joachim’s Church, 61 Leonard Street, Beacon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, May 31, at 1 p.m. at St. Joachim’s Church, 61 Leonard Street, Beacon.

Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Sargent Avenue, Beacon.
