Stanley J. Gromkowski


Stanley J. Gromkowski, a longtime Beacon resident, died Sunday, June 15, 2008, at home in Fishkill. He was 90.

Born in Stratford, CT on December 15, 1917, he was the son of Julius Joseph (Gromko) Gromkowski and Amelia Kiskil Gromkowski. He married the former Angelina Viscentin on November 24, 1946. Mrs. Gromkowski survives at home. He was a US Navy veteran, serving from 1939 to 1945 in the Pacific Theater and aboard the USS Minneapolis and was a Pearl Harbor survivor.

Mr. Gromkowski was a tavern owner who operated the New Haven House and later the Central House in Beacon.

In addition to his wife, Angelina, he is survived by his son, Paul Gromkowski, Fishkill, his daughter-in-law, Susan McGuire, Fishkill, his granddaughter, Natalie Gromko, Fishkill, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Adele Bruno, and his brothers, Joseph, Julius, and Frank Gromko, and John Gromkowski.

The family will receive their friends on Tuesday, June 17, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, at St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 Willow Street, Beacon.

Interment with military honors will follow in St. Joachim’s Cemetery, 303 Washington Avenue, Beacon.

Donations in memory of Mr. Gromkowski may be made to Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF), 54 Simmons Lane, Beacon, NY 12508.
