Joan M. Houghtalin
Joan M. Houghtalin, a lifelong Beacon resident, passed away peacefully at Kaplan Family Hospice Residence, Newburgh, on Sunday, June 22, 2008. She was 75.
Born in Beacon on March 4, 1933, she was the daughter of the late John and Edna Manning. On June 28, 1954, she married Philip Houghtalin at St. Joachim’s Church.
Mrs. Houghtalin worked for various businesses throughout Beacon and was most recently a homecare aide until her retirement in 2005.
She will be remembered for her great love of cooking and animals.
She was a member of St. Fidelis Fraternity, SFO and a lifetime member of Beacon Engine Ladies Auxiliary.
Joan and Phil had two beautiful children, John and Kim. Her husband and children have predeceased her.
She is survived by her sister, Alice Tancredi, her brother, Edward Rafter and his wife, Mary, her sister-in-law, Patricia Manning-Green, and several nieces and nephews, all of Beacon. She also leaves her beloved cat, Maxine. In addition to her parents, husband, and children, she was predeceased by her brother, Patrick Manning.
The family will receive their friends on Tuesday, June 24, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon. Members of St. Fidelis Fraternity will meet for services at 7:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, at St. Joachim’s Church, 57 Leonard Street, Beacon.
Interment will follow in St. Joachim’s Cemetery, 303 Washington Avenue, Beacon.
