Mary Elizabeth Lockwood
Mary Elizabeth Lockwood, a longtime Beacon resident, died Saturday, November 29, 2008, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. She was 88.
Born in White Plains, NY, on July 10, 1920, she was the daughter of George B. and Mary E. Laffey Black. She married Charles Lockwood, who preceded her in death on August 9, 1986. She and her husband owned and operated the former Valley Inn in Beacon. She was a parishioner of St. Joachim-St. John the Evangelist Church, Beacon. and a former member of Court Liberatta, Catholic Daughters of America.
Mrs. Lockwood is survived by her son, James G. Lockwood, Beacon, and her daughter, Ann Marie Davis and her husband, Bill, Beacon, three grandchildren, Jessica, Christina, and Laura Davis, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Francis Nicholas and George Black.
The family will receive their friends on Wednesday evening, December 3, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon. Handicap access is via Oak Street.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, December 4, 2008, at 10 a.m. at St. Joachim’s Church, 51 Leonard Street, Beacon. Interment will follow in St. Joachim’s Cemetery, 303 Washington Avenue, Beacon.
