Louise Voltura
Louise Voltura, a longtime Beacon resident and formerly of the Bronx, died Saturday, January 17, 2009, at Elant at Fishkill, Beacon. She was 93.
Born in New York City on December 12, 1915, she was the daughter of Elinor and John Schacht. On June 2, 1935, she married Joseph Voltura at Mount Carmel Church, the Bronx. Mr. Voltura preceded her in death on January 12, 1999. Together, they owned and operated Service Food Store in the Bronx.
In the early 1970’s, they moved to Wappingers Falls and ultimately settled in Beacon. Louise was a longtime employee in the cafeteria at John Jay High School, East Fishkill. She was a parishioner of St. Joachim-St. John the Evangelist Church, Beacon.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Eleanor Salerno, White Plains; her grandson, Charles Salerno, Jr., Fullerton, CA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Eleanor Salerno, her sister, Blanche Turrisi, and her brothers, William Schacht and Walter Raleigh Schacht.
The family will receive their friends on Thursday, January 22, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon. Handicap access is via Oak Street.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, January 23, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 31 Willow Street, Beacon.
Interment will follow in St. Raymond’s Cemetery, 2600 Lafayette Ave., Bronx, NY.
