Nicholas M. Johannets
Nicholas M. Johannets, a lifelong Beacon resident, died Friday, April 10, 2009, at his home in Beacon, after a courageous eight-month battle with cancer. He was 87.
Born in Beacon on November 29, 1921, he was the son of Joseph and Vincenza DelBianco Johannets. He married the former Eleanor Lattanzio on September 26, 1948. They had celebrated their sixtieth anniversary in 2008. He was a US Army veteran, serving during World War II with the 1879 Engineer Aviation Battalion as a Tech 4th grade in the Pacific Theater. He was a carpenter with Local 323 in Beacon for over sixty years. He was a parishioner of St. Joachim-St. John the Evangelist Church, Beacon. He was also an avid gardener.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Nicholas Johannets, Marlboro; his daughters, Bobbie McCaffrey and her husband, Thomas, both of El Dorado Hills, CA and Ventura, CA; and Margaret Schwartz, Sunnyvale, CA; two grandchildren, Nicholas Swartz, New York City, and Brady Sullivan, Sunnyvale, CA; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Philip and Michael Johannets, and two sisters, Mary Pitocco and Jennifer Joyce.
The family will receive their friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon. Handicap access to the funeral home is via Oak Street.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15, at St. John the Evangelist, 35 Willow Street, Beacon.
Interment will follow in St. Joachim’s Cemetery, 303 Washington Avenue, Beacon.
