Ellen J. Brunell, a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, April 26, 2009, at her residence in Fishkill. She was 78.

Born in Beacon on October 11, 1930, she was the daughter of Michael F. and Julia W. Kalisky Carroll. She married Robert J. Brunell, who preceded her in death on March 8, 2008. She was a retired Corrections Office at Fishkill Correctional Facility and was a parishioner of St. Mary Mother of the Church, Fishkill.

Mrs. Brunell is survived by one son, Robert F. Brunell, Pleasant Valley , and his fiancé, April Degarmo; one daughter, Jeanine Meeks, Port Ewen; one brother, Peter Carroll and his wife, Joyce, Irmo, SC; four grandchildren, Cori Stecher, Robert Brunell, Amanda Brunell, and Mikey Brunell; and two great grandchildren, Kyon T. Johnson, Jr. and Kiana A. Boston; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive their friends on Tuesday, April 28, 2009, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon. Handicap access is via Oak Street.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29, at St. Mary Mother of the Church, 103 Jackson Street, Fishkill.

Burial will follow in St. Joachim’s Cemetery, 303 Washington Avenue, Beacon.
