  VIEW/SEND CONDOLENCES

Robin Verdile

Robin Verdile, a longtime Beacon resident, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, April 30, 2009, after a short but brave battle with leukemia. She was 49.

She was born on June 21, 1959 in Cold Spring to Louis and Jacqueline Verdile. Robin attended Beacon High School. She was a devoted stay-at-home mom for eighteen years.

Robin was employed by Wingate at Beacon as dietary supervisor for the last ten years. She was devoted to the residents, always going the extra step to help and serve. She received several commendations from her supervisors and families of those she helped. Her coworkers were a second family to her.

Robin would often be found at her favorite spot on Sandy Beach in Cold Spring, enjoying the view. She also spent countless hours with her close friend, Anthony Fox, rescuing antiques and restoring them. She was an amazing cook, baker, and gardener. Everyone always had fun when she was there.

She is survived by her loving children, Nicole Cohn and her husband, Paul, Glenham; Jacob Searles, Rebecca Searles and her companion, Dave Wilcheck, and Daniel Searles, all of Beacon. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Luann and John Guerra, Poughkeepsie; Kim and Al Dodd, Pine Bush; Jolene Verdile, Beacon; Jeffrey and Margaret Verdile, Hyde Park; Anthony and Lisa Verdile, Beacon; Renee and John McCormick, Beacon; Rodney Verdile, Beacon; and Julia Verdile, Pine Bush; Uncle Joseph Verdile, Pawling; Aunt Regina and Uncle Tom Norman, Houston, TX; Aunt Dot McIlravy, Cold Spring; and Aunt Marion Edgeworth, Verbank. She is also survived by her ex-husband, Dan Searles, with whom she remained friends, and his family including mother-in-law and father-in-law, Robert and Nancy Searles, Phoenix, AZ, as well as several nieces and nephews and lifelong friends, the Moranski family, Beacon.

Robin’s grandchildren were her pride and joy. She will watch over Paul, Grace, Jack, and Gavin.

In addition to her parents, Louis and Jacqueline Verdile, she was predeceased by two brothers, Damon and James Verdile. They will rejoice in heaven when they are reunited with their “Robin Bird”.

The family wants to thank Hospice and Stephanie Puglia for her support and care.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 3, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, 24 Willow Street, Beacon. Handicap access is via Oak Street.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 4, at St. Joachim’s, 51 Leonard Street, Beacon.

Interment will follow in St. Joachim’s Cemetery, 303 Washington Avenue, Beacon.

Donations in Robin’s memory may be made to Hospice of Dutchess County, 374 Violet Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601-1034.
