Joseph N. “Bosh” Antalek, a lifelong Beacon resident, died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie. He was 90.

He was born in Dutchess Junction, NY, on June 27, 1918, he was the son of Ferdinand and Rose Trubiroha Antalek. He married the former Hazel Miller. Mrs. Antalek survives at home. He was a retired pressman at the former National Biscuit Company, Beacon, and was a parishioner of St. Joachim-St. John the Evangelist Church.

In addition to his wife of sixty-nine years, Hazel, Mr. Antalek is survived by two sons, William and Richard Antalek, both of Beacon; one daughter, Janet Cunningham and her husband, Chuck, Tampa, FL; five grandchildren, William Antalek, Jr. and his wife, Andrea, Stormville, Stacey Rabe and her husband, Thomas, Fishkill, Sarah Apmann and her husband, Todd, Wappingers Falls, Chuck Cunningham, Jr. and his wife, Robyn, and Beth Romano and her husband, Chris, all of Tampa, FL; his brother, Michael Antalek, Fishkill, ten great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Fred, Tony, and Jack Antalek, and three sisters, Ludmilla, Rose, and Josephine.

Joseph was well known throughout the area as a local baseball player and, in 1991, he was inducted in to the Dutchess County Old-Timers Baseball Association Hall of Fame, where he joined the honor with brothers, Tony and Mike.

He was a past member of the Southern Dutchess Country Club and the Beacon Boat Club. He loved fishing, hunting, golf, and baseball. Above all, his family was his main focus in life and he will be greatly missed.

The family will receive their friends on Tuesday, May 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon. Handicap access is via Oak Street.

A Mass of Christian Burial will offered on Wednesday, May 13, at 10 a.m. at St. Joachim’s Church, 51 Leonard Street, Beacon.

Interment will follow in St. Joachim’s Cemetery, 303 Washington Avenue, Beacon.

Donations in memory of Mr. Antalek may be made to Hospice of Dutchess County, 374 Violet Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601-1034.
