Joseph R. Yanarella


Joseph R. Yanarella, a lifelong Beacon resident, died Tuesday, August 25, 2009, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. He was 82.

Born in Beacon on July 10, 1927, he was the son of John and Raffaela DeAngelo Yanarella. On November 27, 1954, he married Mary Jane Reilley at St. John’s Church, Beacon. Mrs. Yanarella survives at home.

Mr. Yanarella was the Supervisor of Budget and Controls at the former Texaco Research Center, Glenham. He was a parishioner of St. Joachim-St. John Church, where he was a former trustee, and a member of Trinity Council #445, Knights of Columbus, Beacon, where he was a past Grand Knight, former District Deputy, past Chapter Chairman, past Conference Chairman, and former Financial Secretary. He was a US Navy veteran, serving during World War II.

In addition to his wife, Mary Jane, he is survived by his daughters, Karen Yanarella, Massachusetts, Kathleen Hall and her husband, John, Sherman, CT, Marie Watson and her husband, Walter, Lowell, MA, and Patty Murphy and her husband, Mike, Chelmsford, MA; his son, Joseph A. Yanarella and his wife, Maria, Beacon; his brother, Ernest Yanarella, Beacon; his sisters, Philomena Lacey, Glenham, Pauline Mendoza, Beacon, Anna Marie Adach, Gloversville, NY, and Antoinette Knight, North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Andrew, J.J., and Danny Watson; Melissa, Bridget, and Annie Murphy; and Kyle and Kristen Yanarella; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Yanarella was predeceased by his sister, Connie Maskiewicz, and his brother, John Yanarella.

The family will receive their friends on Friday, August 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon. Handicap access is via Oak Street. Members of Trinity Council, Kof C will meet for services at 8 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, August 29, at 10 a.m. at St. John’s, 35 Willow Street, Beacon.

Interment will follow in St. Joachim’s Cemetery, 303 Washington Avenue, Beacon.
