Stephen C. Urbanak
Stephen C. Urbanak, a longtime Beacon resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at Elant at Wappingers, with his daughter by his side. He was 93.
Born in East Douglas, MA, on November 20, 1915 he was the son of Joseph and Sophia Manyak Urbanak. On October 22, 1938, he married the love of his life, Evelyn Hubbard, at Our Lady of Loretto Church, Cold Spring. Mrs. Urbanak predeceased her husband on November 28, 1992.
Mr. Urbanak was employed by the former Brandley Piece and Dye Works for thirty years. He also worked for the City of Beacon until his retirement. He was a Life Member of Beacon Engine Fire Company and was a veteran, serving in the US Army in World War II. He was a parishioner of St. Joachim-St. John the Evangelist Church, Beacon. He was a wonderful, loving person who was kind to everyone.
He is survived by his daughter, Carol A. Reader, Wappingers Falls; three granddaughters, Jeanette Carman and her husband, Robert, Gardiner, Karen Morano and her husband, Michael, Charlotte, NC, and Regina Kemlage, Wappingers Falls; six great grandchildren, Joshua and Matthew Kemlage, Wappingers Falls, Michael and Cassondra Carman, Gardiner, and Leana and Kayla Morano, Charlotte, NC; his sisters, Catherine Alesio and Mary Danieli, both of Wappingers Falls; his sister-in-law, Fran Urbanak, Beacon, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph, John, Paul, and Andrew Urbanak, his sisters, Anna Sidote, Helen Drusik, and Frances Pulcastro, and his son-in-law, Alton Reader.
The family will receive their friends on Thursday, September 10, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon. Handicap access is via Oak Street.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, September 11, at 10 a.m. at St. Joachim’s, 51 Leonard Street, Beacon.
Interment will follow in St. Joachim Cemetery, 303 Washington Avenue, Beacon.
