Stephen R. Vitek
Stephen R. Vitek, a lifelong Beacon resident, died Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Pope John Paul II Nursing Home, Danbury, CT. He was 77.
Born in Beacon August 20, 1932, he was the son of John and Elizabeth Belusar Vitek. He married the former Anita Koster.
Mr. Vitek retired as a Correctional Office at the former Matteawan State Hospital. He proudly served his country in the Marine Corps and also was a member of the W.H. Mase Hook and Ladder in Beacon. He was a parishioner of St. Joachim-St. John the Evangelist Church, Beacon.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Cindy Vitek, Massachusetts, and Jodi Vitek and her fiancé, David Hull, Connecticut; one son, Edwin Vitek, “the best one and only son anyone could ask for,” South Carolina; granddaughter, Brandyn “the love of his life;” brothers, Joe Vitek and his wife, Linda, North Carolina, and John Vitek and his wife Barbara, Beacon; aunt, Pauline Belusar, Beacon; nieces and nephews, Diana Grimont, Joe Vitek, Alayne Ricci, David Vitek; and a cousin, Judi Palmer and her husband, Jack, as well as several other nieces and nephews. Mr. Vitek is also survived by several special pets, Buddy, Miley, Dusty, Fudgums and Max.
The family requests that donations be made to the Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, 405 Main Street, Danbury, CT 06810.
The family will receive their friends on Tuesday, October 28, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, October 29, at 10 a.m. at St. Joachim Church, 51 Leonard Street, Beacon.
Interment will follow in St. Joachim Cemetery, Beacon.
