Rose M. Vassalo, a lifelong Beacon resident, died Sunday, November 1, 2009, at St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie. She was 99.

Born in Beacon on June 25, 1910, she was the daughter of Francis and Theresa Marquisa Borrell. She married Frank Vassalo, who preceded her in death on August 8, 1996. She worked as a seamstress in several shops in Beacon.

Mrs. Vassalo was a parishioner of St. Joachim-St. John the Evangelist Church, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Beacon Elks Club, and a former member of Court Liberatta, Catholic Daughters of America.

She is survived by her daughters, Ann M. Husted and her husband, Edward, Fishkill, and Frances R. Cocuzza, Hopewell Junction; her brother, Frank Borrell, State of Florida; five grandchildren, Sharon Husted-Welter and her husband, Martin, Susan Landers and her husband, Tom, Stacey Husted-Levitt and her husband, David, Todd Constable, and Paige Constable; four step grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, five step grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, James Martin, Michael Borrell, Joseph Borrell, and Charles Borrell, and her sister, Elizabeth Leo.

The family will receive their friends on Wednesday, November 4, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, November 5, at 10 a.m. at St. Joachim’s, 57 Leonard Street, Beacon.

Interment will follow in St. Joachim’s Cemetery, 303 Washington Avenue, Beacon.
