|Mary Scalpi Miller
Mary Scalpi Miller, a lifelong Beacon resident and matriarch of the Miller family, died Saturday, January 2, 2010, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie. She was 84.
Born in Beacon on East Main Street on July 15, 1925, she was the daughter of Carmella and Paul Scalpi. A graduate of Beacon High School, she married Germantown resident, Douglas Paul Miller, on April 3, 1944 in Miami, FL. Mr. Miller preceded her in death on January 25, 2003.
About fifty years ago, her husband and she established Minutemen Construction Company, Beacon. She was a parishioner of St. Joachim-St. John the Evangelist Church and a past member of American Legion and St. Joachim’s CYO. Mary’s kindness extended to close relationships with the Capuchin Friars and the Carmelite Sisters of the Atonement, both in Beacon.
Mary is survived by her five children, Paula Wyant and her late husband, Earl, Rebecca Montalto, Douglas Miller and his wife, Dawn, Christine Klein and her husband, James, and Jonathan Miller; seven grandchildren, Matthew Wyant, Melissa Wyant, Kevin Montalto, Jennifer Ianniello, Douglas P. Miller III, Rachel Miller, and Cara Miller; nine great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Mathew, and Alexander Wyant, Nichole Wyant-Healey, Tiziani and London Montalto, Christopher and Ryan Ianello, and Douglas Miller IV; two sisters, Grace Hedges and Carmella Link, and a brother, Louis Scalpi, several nieces and nephews, and many special friends. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brothers and sister, Joseph, Mike, John, and Ernest Scalpi, and Ida Reinoehl.
Mary’s charity, generosity, and love always extended past family, touching the lives of many.
The family will receive their friends on Tuesday, January 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street at Oak Street, Beacon. Handicap access to the funeral home is via Oak Street.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Joachim’s Church, 51 Leonard Street, Beacon, at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 6.
Interment will follow in St. Joachim’s Cemetery, 303 Washington Avenue, Beacon.
