|Hon. Thomas J. Lynch
Thomas J. Lynch, a retired lawyer and city judge, died surrounded by his family, on April 12, 2010 at Avow Hospice in Naples, FL. He formerly lived in Beacon, NY and Myrtle Beach, SC. He was 83.
He was born in Beacon on April 14, 1926 to T. Joseph and Mary McKernan Lynch. One of six children, Mr. Lynch was educated in Beacon and graduated from St. Johnís University School of Commerce and School of Law in Brooklyn. He received an honorable discharge from the Army Air Force on July 11, 1946. Tom was an officer of the Beacon City Police Department until opening his law practice. He became a member of the New York State Bar in 1957.
Judge Lynch was a former partner of Phillips, Heaney, and Scofield in Beacon and a partner at S&H Abstract, Inc., Poughkeepsie. He was elected City Judge in Beacon in 1961, a position he held for 16 years. Tom was a member of the New York Bar Association and the New York Magistrates Association.
A resident of Naples since 1997, Mr. Lynch was an avid runner, golfer, a pilot, and a former member of Southern Dutchess Country Club, Beacon and Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Norma E. Shear Lynch; six children, Anne Lynch, Beacon, Mary Lynch Yates and her husband, Robert, Danbury, CT, Sean T. Lynch, Highland, Bridget Lynch, Beacon, Bronwyn Novak and her husband, Fred, Milan, and Heather Lynch Toussaint and her husband, Jon, Nassau, NY; ten loving grandchildren, Peter T. Groza and his wife, Misty, Yonni M. Groza, Lauren C. Groza, Elena Yates, Dmitry Yates, Angelina Lynch, Nicole A. Novak, Connor T. Novak, Max and Jack Toussaint; two great grandchildren, Francesca and Fallon Groza; one nephew, Richard T. Wagner; three nieces, Marjorie A. Hetling, Maryanne Walsh, and Joanne Rosenbluth. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan A. Guilbault Lynch in 1969; three sisters, Kathleen, Dorothy, and Marjorie; and two brothers, William and Donald.
The family will receive their friends on Saturday, May 1, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon.
