|Cosmo A. Melfi
Cosmo A. Melfi, a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, July 11, 2010, at his residence with his family by his side after a courageous two year battle with cancer. He was 56.
Born in Beacon, on April 18, 1954, he was the son of Anthony and Ester Ramazzotti Melfi. Cosmo attended school in the Beacon School District.
On September 1, 1990, Cosmo married his best friend, the former Mary Colwell. Mary and Cosmo were inseparable. Cosmo worked at TEMCO for 34 years and worked side by side with Mary for 23 of those years as janitors at IBM East Fishkill.
Some of their favorite pastimes include going to the casinos in Atlantic City and bowling on the Sunday Night Mixed League at Southern Dutchess Bowl in
Glenham. They loved bowling and made such wonderful friends over the 14 years there. Cosmo also enjoyed playing Italian card games with his Uncle Vin. He enjoyed the simple things in life and was a loving and devoted husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend to many! He will be deeply missed by all those who came to know him.
Cosmo was a parishioner of St. Joachim – St. John the Evangelist Church, a member of the Improved Order of Red Men and the Degree of Pocahontas.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Ester Melfi, Wappingers Falls; his sister, Ann Melfi Viglotti and her children Danielle and Anthony, Poughkeepsie; his brothers-in-law, Robert J. Colwell, Kingston and William Colwell and his wife Nancy, Florida; as well as several other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Anthony Melfi in 1987.
The family will receive their friends on Wednesday, July 14, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 15, at St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 Willow Street, Beacon.
Entombment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery,5468 Route 9W North, Newburgh.
Donations in memory of Cosmo may be made to the American Cancer Society, Vassar Brothers Medical Center, 45 Reade Place, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
Funeral arrangements are under the supervision of Peter T. and Patrick J. Halvey.
