Robert F. Simmons, a resident of Beacon, died Saturday, September 11, 2010, at his home in Beacon. He was 76.
Born in Brooklyn, NY on April 8, 1934, he was the son of James and Mary Neubauer Simmons. He married the former Mary Pinkhardt Byrne, who survives at home. Mr. Simmons is a US Navy veteran, serving in the Korean War from 1952 to 1956 on the William C. Lawe DD 763. He retired as a Correction Officer at Matteawan State Hospital and later worked at Loomis Armored Car. He was a Life Member of the Beacon Elks Lodge. He was a parishioner of St. John-St. Joachim Church.
In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by two sons, Mark Simmons, Beacon, and Robert Simmons and his wife, Nancy, North Carolina; a brother, William Simmons and his wife, Sylvia, State of Florida; a sister, Marie Musser and her husband, Richard, New Jersey; and three grandchildren, Hope, Austin, and Lilly; stepchildren, Michael Byrne and his wife, Michelle, and Stacy Parent. Mr. Simmons was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph, Howard, Edward, James, and Walter Simmons.
The family will receive their friends on Monday, September 13, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, September 14, at 10 a.m. at St. Joachimís, 51 Leonard Street, Beacon.Interment will follow in the Veteranís Section of St. Joachimís Cemetery, 303 Washington Avenue, Beacon.
