|Stephen A. Wiercinski
Stephen A. Wiercinski, a lifelong area resident, died November 6, 2010 at home in Glenham. He was 89.
Born in Beacon on January 26, 1921, he was the son of Antonio and Helen Wiercinski. He married the former Kathleen Kennedy. Mrs. Wiercinski survives at home.
Mr. Wiercinski was a graduate of St. Joachim’s School and Beacon High School. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1942 and proudly served in the South Pacific during World War II as a Chief Petty Officer on an LCI. Following his service in the Navy, he worked at National Biscuit Company and then Texaco Research Center, from where he retired. He was also a meter reader for the Town of Fishkill. He was a lifetime member of Slater Chemical Fire Company and coached baseball for many years in the Town of Fishkill and the City of Beacon, and was a parishioner of St. Joachim-St. John the Evangelist Church, Beacon.
In addition to his wife of 64 years, Kathleen, he is survived by his daughters, Sister Mary of Jesus (Kathy), Elmira, and Karen Ninnie and her husband, Jeff, Beacon; his son, Stephen Wiercinski, Glenham; his grandchildren, Amber Long and her husband, Tom, and Cara Heaton and her husband, Rick; his great grandchildren, Ty and Jordyn Long and Derrick and Aiden Heaton; cousins, Sandi Hyzer and her husband, Jerry, and Nancy Jacukowski and her husband, Tom; and brothers-in-law, Richard Kennedy and his wife, Marge, Yonkers, and James Kennedy and his wife, Toni, Florida; sister-in-law, Joan Scheider and her husbamd, Tom, Vermont; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Wiercinski was predeceased by his grandson, Kevin Ninnie, brother, John Wiercinski, and his sisters-in-law, Vivian Wright and Doris Jones.
The family will receive their friends on Tuesday, November 9, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, November 10, at 10 a.m. at St. Joachim’s, 51 Leonard Street, Beacon.
Interment will follow in St. Joachim’s Cemetery, 303 Washington Avenue, Beacon.
