|Anthony J. DePaolo, Sr.
Anthony J. DePaolo, Sr., a lifelong area resident, passed away at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh on October 31, 2011. He was 95.
Born in Wappingers Falls on April 4, 1916 Tony was the son of Joseph and Maria Rastelli DePaolo. Tony was a graduate of Wappingers Schools and the Mechanics Institute in New York City. Tony proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1945. He married the former Helen Paolilli in 1939. Helen predeceased Tony in 1961. In 1963 he married the former Mildred Chiarella Palumbo. Mildred predeceased Tony in 2002. Tony retired from Wappingers Central School System as Head Maintenance Mechanic in 1979. He played saxophone and performed throughout the Hudson Valley from 1938 to 1998 with the Joe Eagan Band. Tony was a parishioner of St. Joachim – St. John the Evangelist Church, a life member of the DAV Chapter 144, Beacon, a life member of the Musicians Union 238-291, life member of S.W. Johnson Engine Company #2, Wappingers Falls and member of the Dutchess Boat Club, Beacon.
Tony is survived by his sons, Joseph and his wife, Sharon and Anthony, Jr. and his wife, Maria both of Beacon; his grandchildren, Melissa, Christopher, Loretta, Joanne and her husband, Walter and Paris and his wife, Cynthia; great grandchildren, Mathew, Jonathon, Paris, Jr., Cameron and Abigail; several nieces and nephews.
Tony was predeceased by his brothers, Louis and Nicholas DePaolo and his sisters, Pauline Aspanok, Angie DiBiase and Ann Elsinger and his step-son, Anthony Palumbo.
The family will receive their friends on Thursday, November 3, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 4, 2011 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 31 Willow Street, Beacon.
Interment with military honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Wappingers Falls.
