Carmela Grech, a Beacon resident, went to eternal sleep on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at 9:10 p.m. at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie.

Born in Malta on January 14, 1936 Carmela was the daughter of the late Tony and Katrina Xerri. Carmela married Paul Grech who predeceased her on March 11, 1994. Carmela was a devout Catholic parishioner of St. Joachim – St. John the Evangelist Church in Beacon. She attended Sunday services at St. Lawrence Friary where she was a Secular Franciscan Third Order member. Carmela was always happy and smiling and loved by everyone that met her. She was a saint and could always cheer you up no matter what.

Carmela is survived by her four children, Frank Grech and his wife, Amata and their children, Sabrina Melissa and Debra Elizabeth, Joe Grech and his wife, Rita and their children, Paul J. and Christopher, Marita Tzanis and her children, Efrosini and Paul V. and Anthony Grech and his wife, Iris and their children, Paul L. Rebecca and Veronica.

The family will receive their friends on Monday, January 23, 2011 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 31 Willow Street, Beacon.

Interment will follow at St. Joachim Cemetery, 301 Washington Avenue, Beacon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Carmela may be made to either St. Lawrence Friary, 180 Sargent Avenue, Beacon, New York 12508 or to St. Joachim – St. John the Evangelist Church, 2 Oak Street, Beacon, New York 12508.

Funeral arrangements are under the supervision of Peter T. and Patrick J. Halvey.
