|Richard A. Darcy
Richard A. Darcy, 62, entered into eternal rest on December 3, 2012 after a courageous and miraculous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and friends at home.
Richard was born on November 14, 1950 in Beacon, New York to James J. and Rita (Reilly) Darcy. On August 25, 1972 he married Judy Ann Gilligan in Fishkill. They reinstated their vows on December 22, 1985 in the presence of their children, sisters and brothers at St. John the Evangelist Church in Beacon by Fr. Martin J. Connolly. Richard and his family resided in Beacon, West Haven, Connecticut and Winston-Salem, North Carolina before moving to Fishkill in 1981.
Richard served in the United States Army as a Medic. A Vietnam-era disabled veteran, Richard was active with the Disabled Veterans and worked for the United States Veterans Administration from 1972 until 1994, rising to Chief of Medical Administrative Services. Richard was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Trinity Council #445, coached for and was President of the Fishkill Little League and was Cubmaster for Cub Scouts Pack 54. In his younger days, Richard loved to ride his dirt bike and he threw discus for Beacon High. An avid hunter and fisherman, Richard loved to be outdoors, especially on Mt. Beacon, and to pass these loves on to his children and grandchildren. He was a lifemember and past president of East Hook Sportsmen’s Association and was an active board member of East Hook until his death.
Richard is survived by his son, David Michael and his daughter-in-law, Renee of West Dundee, IL, his daughter, Laurie Ann Peluso and son-in-law, Tom of Poughkeepsie, his son, Philip James and daughter-in-law, Jen of Poughkeepsie, his son, Richard Lawrence and daughter-in-law, Noelle of Wappingers Falls, his daughter, Meghann Lee Toth and son-in-law, Michael of Hopewell Junction; his grandchildren, David and Breanna Darcy, Ashley and Alyson Coffrin, Tommy and Madison Peluso, Nikolas, Matthew and Katherine Darcy, Alyssa Darcy, Elizabeth, Michael and Gabriel Toth – with a fourteenth grandchild on her way; his four siblings, James, Patricia, John and Kevin.
Richard was predeceased by his parents and his beloved wife, Judy.
“Grandpa Rich” will always be fondly remembered for his love of his family, especially his grandchildren, for his sense of humor, for his generosity and for his devout faith. He will be greatly missed by many.
The family will receive their friends on Friday, December 7, 2012 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 8 at 10:15 a.m. at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 103 Jackson Street, Fishkill.
Interment with military honors will follow at St. Joachim Cemetery, 301 Washington Avenue, Beacon.
