Dorothy Squires, a longtime area resident passed away on Friday, February 15, 2013 at Ferncliff Nursing Home, Rhinebeck. She was 95.
The daughter of Frederick and Anna Ripple Bossong, Dorothy was born in Beacon on March 10, 1917. On July 21, 1943 at St. Joachim Church in Beacon she married Robert D. Squires. Mr. Squires predeceased Dorothy in 1990. After their marriage, Dorothy and Robert moved to St. Augustine, Florida and opened a truck stop which they ran for 10 years. In the 1960s they moved back to Beacon to be closer to family. Dorothy bought Spy Hill Florist which she operated until her husbands retirement from IBM. They moved back to St. Augustine to enjoy retirement. After Roberts passing Dorothy moved back to New York where she lived in Pine Plains with her niece and nephew.
Dorothy is survived by her nieces and nephews, Catherine Fortin, Jack Norton, Richard Norton, John Kudzia, Ellen Laurelli and Susan Gallerstein; her cousin, Dolores Campbell; her many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Dorothy was predeceased by her sisters, Katherine Norton, Evelyn Kudzia and Theresa Horton; her brother, Fred Bossong; her nephew, Robert Horton; her nieces, Claire McMillen, Phyllis Mussacchio and Ann Marie Totten.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Joachim Church, 51 Leonard Street, Beacon.
Interment of Dorothys ashes will follow at St. Lukes Cemetery, 850 Wolcott Avenue, Beacon.
Memorial donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to either, St. Joachim St. John the Evangelist Church, 2 Oak Street, Beacon, New York 12508 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memorial and Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
