Edward J. Bronson

Navy Veteran and Retired Tonawanda Fireman

Edward J. Bronson, age 83, of the Town of Lockport, formerly of Tonawanda, died Sunday, January 4, 2009 at Lockport Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Buffalo, he was the son of the late Edward J. and Gertrude (nee Haag) Bronson, Sr. and was a WWII Navy Veteran. Mr. Bronson was a Fireman in the City of Tonawanda for 25 years, before retiring, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Twin City Council No. 413. A resident of the Town of Lockport for more than 30 years, Ed was an avid outdoorsman. He was the husband of the late Rita (nee Powell) Bronson, father of the late Daniel Bronson and brother of the late Donald Bronson, James Bronson and Jeanne Reese.

He is survived by four sons, David Bronson of Tonawanda, NY, Lawrence (Rita) Bronson of Niceville, FL, William (Marilyn) Bronson of Tonawanda, NY, and Christopher (Greta) Bronson of Gasport, NY; four daughters, Jean (Pat) Calabrese of Tonawanda, NY, Sharon (Jerry) Short of Tonawanda, NY, Kathleen (John) White of Tonawanda, NY, and SueAnn (Roy) Haney of Port Chester, NY; a daughter in law, Janet Bronson of Exton, PA; and two sisters, Marion Krone of Orchard Park, NY, and Bernice LeVea of Cheektowaga, NY. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Thursday only at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Friday at St. Francis of Assisi Church on Broad Street in Tonawanda; the Rev. Michael Uebler officiating. Friends invited. Interment will be cared for privately at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda. If desired, memorials to the Erie County SPCA, 205 Ensminger Road, Tonawanda, NY 14150, are preferred by the family.
