Paul E. Sturner

Active in Local Theater

Paul E. Sturner, age 91, of Tonawanda, died Saturday, February 21, 2009, at his residence after a long illness. Born in Buffalo, he was the son of the late Peter and Emma (nee Noe) Sturner and was an Army Medical Corps Veteran of WWII. A resident of Tonawanda for more than 48 years, he was employed at the GM Forge Plant in the Town of Tonawanda before retiring in 1980. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish and a former director of the C.Y.O. at the Church. Mr. Sturner was involved in many theater productions, including the Towne Players in the Town of Tonawanda, the Ghostlight Theater in North Tonawanda, and the Melodrams in Buffalo. He was the husband of the late Rosemary (nee Kroetsch) Sturner, who died February 5, 2000, and brother of the late Peter (Ann) Sturner and Eleanor (Russell) Eggleston.

He is survived by four sons, Paul J. Sturner of Kenmore, NY, William (Kendra) Sturner of Cherry Hill, NJ, Daniel L. Sturner of Tonawanda, NY, and James (Christine) Sturner of North Tonawanda, NY. Also surviving are four grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Tuesday only at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Wednesday at St. Francis Chapel on Adam Street in Tonawanda. Friends invited. Entombment will be cared for privately at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda. If desired, memorials to Hospice Buffalo, 225 Como Park Blvd, Cheektowaga, NY 14227, or the Towne Players, PO Box 112, Tonawanda, NY 14151-0112, are preferred by the family.
