Theodora T. Lizon

A Devoted Christian woman

Theodora T. (nee Stefanski) Lizon, age 89, of North Tonawanda, died unexpectedly, Thursday, February 26, 2009, at her residence. Born May 27, 1919 in North Tonawanda, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Anastasia (nee Zandrowicz) Stefanski. Theodora had been a member of Ascension R.C. Parish for the greater part of her life. She was a member of the Ladies of Charity, and had taught CCD. She served as the Sacristan at the Pallotine Chapel for more than 30 years. Mrs. Lizon was instrumental in founding the Right to Life Party in Western New York, and served as the local head of the Eagle Forum for many years. She was the Class Poet when she was graduated from North Tonawanda High School in 1936, and was employed at the former Allan Herschell Co. before retiring as an executive secretary. Mrs. Lizon was a former member of the Red Cross Board, served as vice-president of the Tonawanda Business Women in 1957, was head of the Women's Division for the United Way of the Tonawandas in 1958, and was active in Scouting. She also served on the Board of the Organ Society of Western New York and was a member of the committee to purchase the Riviera Theatre. Theodora served as a member of the Corporate Board at DeGraff Memorial Hospital and was president of the Hospital Auxiliary in 1958. She was the wife of John A. Lizon for 56 years before his death on July 13, 1997.

She is survived by two sons, John (Mary) Lizon of Seattle, Washington, and Michael A. Lizon of Gasport, New York. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, several great-grand children and many nieces and nephews.

There is no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Jude the Apostle R. C. Church followed by interment at Acacia Park Cemetery, Town of Pendleton. If desired, memorials to the Salvation Army, 46 Broad Street, Tonawanda, NY 14150, are preferred by the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda.
