Jean A. Nagel

Former Tonawanda Crossing Guard

Jean (nee Penberthy) Nagel, age 84, of North Tonawanda, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at DeGraff Memorial Hospital, after a long illness. Born in Tonawanda, she was the daughter of the late John and Kathleen (nee Dolan) Penberthy and had been a lifelong resident of the Tonawandas. A member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish and the Tonawanda Senior Citizens, Mrs. Nagel was a crossing guard in the City of Tonawanda, and had worked at Twin-Fair and K-Mart, before retiring. She was the wife of the late Myron "Mike" Nagel, who died December 16, 1996, and was the sister of the late Thomas (the late Rita) Penberthy.

She is survived by her son, Roy (Roseann) Nagel; two daughters, Sandra A. Nagel and Nancy (Everett) Miller; two brothers, James (Maryann) Penberthy and Jerome (Patricia) Penberthy; and a sister-in-law, Jean (the late John) Penberthy. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Jennifer, Jonathan and Joshua, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Friday only at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Saturday at St. Francis Chapel on Adam Street in Tonawanda; the Rev. Michael Uebler officiating. Friends invited. Interment will be cared for privately at Elmlawn Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda. If desired, memorials to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 73 Adam Street, Tonawanda, NY 14150, are preferred by the family.
