Operated "Bob Johnson's Quality Meats" in Tonawanda
Robert Johnson, age 83, of North Tonawanda, formerly of Tonawanda, died Friday, August 21, 2009 at DeGraff Memorial Hospital. Born in Buffalo, he was the son of the late Robert and Beatrice (nee Norton) Johnson and had been a resident of the Tonawandas for the greater part of his life. A Navy Veteran of WWII, he served as a Gunner's Mate on the USS Zane in the Pacific Theatre of Operations, and was a life member of the American Legion, Tonawandas Post No. 264. Mr. Johnson owned and operated "Bob Johnson's Quality Meats" on Main Street in Tonawanda during the 1960s and was later employed at Bells Supermarkets before retiring. He was the loving husband of the late Margaret Marr (nee Gabriel ) Johnson, who died March 27, 2002.
He is survived by his three sons, James (Margaret) Johnson of Monroe Township, NJ, Craig (June) Johnson of North Tonawanda, NY, and Rob Johnson of Youngstown, NY; seven grandchildren, Michelle, Scott, Bradley, Sean, Michael, Matthew, and Nicholas; and seven great-grandchildren.
There is no visitation. Services are private at the convenience of the family and interment with military honors will be at Acacia Park Cemetery, Town of Pendleton. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Tonawanda. If desired, memorials to DeGraff Memorial Hospital, 1260 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14209, are preferred by the family.
