Jean A. Bontempi

Jean (nee Knapic) Bontempi, age 71, of Tonawanda, died Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Hospice Buffalo, after a long illness. Born in Boltz, Pennsylvania, she had been a resident of Tonawanda for more than 50 years. Mrs. Bontempi was a customer service clerk at Middle Atlantic Warehouse in Tonawanda before retiring in 1998, and was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, where she was a Eucharistic Minister and helped with the Outreach Program and the food pantry.

She is survived by her husband, Carl W. Bontempi; three daughters, Diana (Joseph) Jedrzejek of Utica, NY, Sharon Wydro of North Tonawanda, NY, and Susan (Kurtis) Klein of East Amherst, NY; her son, Daniel (Valerie) Bontempi of Oak Hill, WV; two grandsons, John Wydro and Michael Klein; and her mother, Irene (nee Tare) Knapic of the Town of Boston, NY. Also surviving are four brothers, a sister and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Tuesday only at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Wednesday at St. Francis Chapel on Adam Street in Tonawanda; the Rev. Msgr. Richard Wetter officiating. Interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda. If desired, memorials to Hospice Buffalo, 225 Como Park Blvd, Cheektowaga, NY 14227, or the American Cancer Society are preferred by the family.
