Frequently Asked Questions | Coping Through the Holidays After Losing a Loved One | To Remember Me - a poem by Robert N. Test | Value of Funeral Service |

Our funeral home is a family owned and operated business and has been for 81 years. We pride ourselves in being Tuscola County's oldest family owned and operated funeral home which has been in the Hanlin family for three generations. The Hanlin Funeral Home is also the oldest family owned business in Millington.
The funeral home was founded by William (Bill) and Florence Hanlin in 1928. William and Florence Hanlin purchase the funeral parlor from a man by the name of Lee Huston. In 1926 after returning from his formal education at the Detroit School of Embalming & Funeral Directing William Hanlin returned to Millington and went to work for Mr. Lee Huston managing his funeral parlor in Millington "Huston Funeral Parlor". Then in June of 1928 William & Florence purchased the business & real estate from Mr. Huston. (Florence also becomes a licensed funeral director in the late 1930's). Bill & Florence renamed the funeral parlor to a new more modern sound "Hanlin Funeral Home". They began their business with a simple philosophy. "Serve others as you would want to be served, with comfort, warm and home like surroundings." The funeral home originally was located in a house on State Street in down town Millington. The house was between the Doctor's Office and the Hardware (today the property is the village parking lot and a small park). Bill and Florence Hanlin operated their funeral home from 1928 until the fall of 1949 at this location. It was in the spring of 1949 that they purchased property on West Main Street. Then in June of 1949 which marked 21 years of service to Millington community and its families, Bill & Florence built and opened their new facility at its current location 4823 West Main Street. Then in the spring of 1955 their youngest son Jerry W. Hanlin obtained his mortuary science degree from Wayne State University in Detroit. Jerry returned home and began working alongside his parents until they passed the torch and retired in the fall of 1962 though retired Bill and Florence stayed semi-active in the business. Jerry & Marion Hanlin became the family's second generation to carry on the family business that was now in its 34th year. Jerry & Marion carried on the family philosophy and provided the Millington community with comfort and services from the facility that was at that time just 13 years old. In 1977 Jerry and Marion made some major renovations to the building and gave it a new look. In the renovation they added on to the funeral home which made things a bit more comfortable for families in their time of need. In January of 1997 Jerry and Marion once again passed the torch to the family's third generation to carry on the family profession. The Hanlin Funeral Home of now 69 years will still be in the hands of the founding family. Dale and Pamela (Pam) Hanlin have been handed the torch and will carry on the fine tradition and the same philosophy set forth by Jerry's parents and Dale's grandparents. In May of 2006 Dale & Pam made yet another major renovation with an addition across the entire backside of the funeral home. With this new addition it allows for much more comfort for the families even though it’s been seventy nine years, three generations, and two renovations. The Hanlin Funeral Home still carries a warm home like atmosphere. The decor consists of antiques from the foyer throughout the entire funeral home. The Hanlin's have always taken the word "HOME" in the title Funeral Home very seriously. If you’re not as comfortable here as you would be in your own home then were not living up to a portion our 81 year old philosophy. During your time of need which is a very hard time in life, and as hard as it is "comfort" is what you need not only in the services we provide. But, in the surroundings we offer for you and your family as well.
