Mr. Elden S. (Al) Engler | Special Services: Al passed away Friday afternoon February 20, 2009 at his residence with his family at his side after a lengthy illness, Al was 67. The family has honored his wish and cremation has taken place. A Life Celebration Service was held on Saturday February 28, 2009 at the Millington United Methodist. Dr. Maurice Chapin and other guest share in the life eulogy of Al's. Pastor Pete Crawford deliverd the memorial message and the closing prayers. | | | Elden S. (Al) Engler the son of Stuart & Alice (Rohrer) Engler was born in Millington on October 18, 1941. Al has been a Millington resident all of his life. After graduating from Millington High School Al served 5 1/2 years in the US-Navy. When he returned from the Navy Al went to work for General Motors and worked 30 years until retiring in 2005. Al also served the Millington Community by serving 30 years on the Millington-Arbela Twp.Fire Dept. After Al retired he pursued his love for Golf and played as much as possible and in the past enjoyed the opportunity to work at the Buick Open. He loved the Red Wings and ususally never missed a game and would sometimes attend their preseason camps. Al also loved collecting Red Wings memorbilia. Al was also was a member of the Conrad-Wager & Keene American Legion Post #164.
Al leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 40 years Nancy, his brother & sister in-law Delbert & Pam Engler. Father in-law Mr. Clayton (Pete) Coleman, sister in-law & husband Shirley & John Zimmerman, brother in-law & wife Buck & Nancy Coleman, sister in-law & husband Coleen & Lloyd Snyder, and brother in-law Jack Robbins. Al leaves also many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews all of whom were very special to him. Al leaves many friends and other extended family. Al elaves his loving and devoted pets dogs; Chandler & Gypsy, and cats; Puck & Gum. Besides his parents Al is preceded in death by; a brother Dale, and a sister Estella Mae. Memorial Gifts of Remembrance in Al's memory can be directed to the Millington-Arbela Twp. Fire Dept. or the American Cancer Society. Hanlin Funeral Home has been assisting the Engler family.
