| | | Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Lyle R. Peña, 65, a resident of Davenport, will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 24, 2009 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 417 Main Street, Davenport. Burial will take place in the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home. Lyle died on September 20, 2009 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, after a hard fought battle with Adult Acute Myeloid Leukemia surrounded by his loving family.
Lyle Richard Peña was born on July 26, 1944 in Davenport, a son of Eladio and Lenore (Olvera) Peña. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy. Lyle was united in marriage to Wendi Young on November 11, 1978 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They have shared over 30 years of marriage together.
Lyle retired in March of 2009 from the Rock Island Arsenal Police Department. He retired with the rank of Captain after 20 years of service. Lyle was a member of the Rock Island Auxiliary Police, the Knights of Columbus #532 and St. Anthony Catholic Church. He was a fan of the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Adult Leukemia Unit.
Lyle is survived by his loving wife, Wendi, Davenport; a daughter, Rebecca (Harvey) Wiley, Davenport; a son, Anthony Peña; a grandson, Brenden Eladio Wiley; his siblings, Alvino Peña, Jesse Peña, Lupe Peña, all of Davenport, Linda Garcia, Rock Island, and Francisco Peña, Silvis; his father and mother-in-law, David and Reva Young, Davenport, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Lyle is also survived by “The Girls,” his cats, Lucky and Lucy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Joe Peña and Henry Peña. May they rest in peace.
