| | | Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Carol J. Vargas, 72, a resident of Davenport, will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 3, 2009 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home with a rosary service at 4:00 p.m. Carol died Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, surrounded by her loving family.
Carol Jean Carrillo was born on August 26, 1937 in Davenport, Iowa, a daughter of Vincent and Josephine (Lopez) Carrillo. She was united in marriage to Elias "Topper" Vargas on September 29, 1956.
In her early years, Carol spent her time raising and caring for her seven children. Later, she ventured out and worked for John Deere, Davenport Works for 25 years. She retired in 2001.
After retirement Carol filled her days enjoying lunch with family and friends, shopping, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, for whom she would do anything and everything.
Memorials may be made to Father Conroy's Vineyard or a charity of your choice.
Carol is survived by Elias J. "Topper" Vargas; her sons, Francis (Jeanne) Vargas, Rock Falls, IL, Thomas (Kim Raap) Vargas, Davenport; Elias Vargas, Jr., Lombard, IL, David Vargas, Davenport; Joseph (Tracey)Vargas, Davenport; daughters, Loretta Vargas and Andrea (William) Grogan, both of Davenport; grandchildren, Tyler, Stephanie, Jamie, Chelsea, James, Michael, Suzanne, Preston, and Elias; a brother, Vincent (Pat) Carrillo, Jr., Davenport, and a sister, Gloria Segura, Shelby, AL; and several nieces and nephews.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Thomas "Buzzy" Carrillo. May they rest in peace.
