| | | Funeral services to celebrate the life of Ruth E. Frueh, 79, a resident of Davenport, will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Honoring her wish there will be no visitation. Mrs. Frueh died Sunday, October 4, 2009 at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.
Ruth Elizabeth Kenney was born on December 30, 1929 in Rock Island, a daughter of William O. and Viola E. (Lefler) Kenney. She was united in marriage to Lloyd J. Frueh November 28th, 1980.
Ruth was a graduate from Rock Island High School and Brown’s Business College, working at various clerical positions before dedicating herself to raising her children and taking care of their home. She enjoyed playing euchre and was a Life Master in Tournament Bridge. She was a member of the Quad City Bridge Club and the First Baptist Church of Bettendorf. Ruth was a friend of Bill W. for over 35 years and helped with AA at the women’s county jail.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Lloyd of Davenport, and their children, a daughter, Kimberly Smith, DeWitt, a son, Mark and Holly Smith, Stockbridge, GA, 8 grandchildren, a sister, Beverly Turner, Atlanta, GA, a brother Donald Kenney, Rock Island, her step-children, John Frueh, Michael Frueh and Barbara Wright, all of Davenport, William Frueh of California; 5 step-grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Lance Smith, a sister, Betty Gibbons and a brother, William Kenney, Jr.
