Funeral services to celebrate the Life of Bernice Kirkpatrick, 83, a resident of Davenport, formerly of Muscatine, will be Noon Saturday, October 10, 2009 in the All Faith Chapel at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. There will be additional visitation prior to the funeral on Saturday from 11:00a.m until the service at noon.
Mrs. Kirkpatrick died Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport following a brief illness.
Bernice Meyer was born April 18, 1926 in Davenport a daughter of Ernest and Aurelia (Friday) Meyer. She was united in marriage to Jay E. Kirkpatrick on June 28, 1941 in Lancaster, Missouri. He preceded her in death on March 8, 2003.
Bernice was very proud of her heritage being a direct descendent from one of the first families to farm in Scott County. She was primarily a house wife and homemaker, lovingly raising her children. Bernice enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting, doing crossword puzzles, watching the “Golden Girls” and enjoying her new friends at Luther Crest.
Memorials can be made to Q.C. Paws, (Rock Island County Animal Shelter), Scott Co. Humane Society or a favorite charity of choice.
Survivors include her daughters and their spouses, Sandra Kendoll, Muscatine, Linda and Donald Sawvell, of Davenport, Patricia and Stephen Mapley, Marilyn and Jim Swinburn, all of Coal Valley, Dede Turner, and Susan and Don Speer, all of Davenport; 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Her sisters-in-law, always thought more of as sisters, Marge Kirkpatrick, Sophia, NC and Betty Kirkpatrick, Phoenix, AZ, as well as the late Gloria Dannon and June Kirkpatrick; In addition to her husband and parents she was also preceded in death by a son Ronald Kirkpatrick, a granddaughter, Sarah Holder and son-in-law, Richard Kendoll. May they rest in peace.
